Guard dogs or double glazing – take your pick!

Guard Dog

Guard Dog

“Smithers – release the dogs!” is the frequent cry from Mr. Burns to his assistant in “The Simpsons”.  If you don’t watch it, fair enough, but we all know that Guard dogs have been used as Home Security measures from way back.  For those of us who don’t have a pack of dogs to unleash, just the one animal can be great for home protection or you might invest in some really secure double glazing?

Burglaries and robberies are a constant threat these days in the UK and double glazed windows and doors will keep your home protected against the threat because they’re made with a tough exterior and obviously, two toughened sheets of glass.  If these panes of glass are broken during a robbery, they make a loud noise.  The double glazed windows also come equipped with other Home security features such as multi-locks, hinged security features and double locking handles.

Thieves often target homes where the door or window frames are badly constructed and the panes of glass easily removed.  With double glazing in place, this cannot occur.  Double glazing should be manufactured to British Standard BS 7412 standard because they are then hard to break or force open from the outside.  Even if the thieves try to use glass cutters, it’s not going to work on laminated glass and they won’t be able to remove double glazing, if it has beading on the inside.

Although double glazing can be an expensive outlay, it’s got to be worth it for peace of mind.
